Bharathi / physics

Was listening to this aweseome song "Nirpathuve" from Bharathi. These few lines struck me hard.

Kaalamendrey oru ninaivum
Kaatchiyendrey pala ninaivum
Koalamum poykaloa?
Angu gunangalum poykaloa?

I was wondering if Bharathi was trying to write about the concept of unification of space and time here. Considering the fact that the paper was published in 1905 and Bharathi lived till 1921, i wouldn't rule out the possibility.

Here is the entire lyrics of this awesome song..

Nirpadhuvey, nadappathuvey, parappadhuvey
Nirpadhuvey, nadappathuvey, parappadhuvey
Neengalellaam sorpanam thaanoa?
Pala thoatra mayakkangaloa?
Sorpanam thaanoa?
Pala thoatra mayakkangaloa?

Karpadhuvey, kaerpadhuvey, karuguvathey
Neengalellaam arpa maayaykaloa?
Ummul aazhntha porul illayoa?
Arpe maayaykaloa?
Ummul aazhntha porul illayoa?

Vaanaghamey, ile veyilae, mara cherivey
Vaanaghamey, ile veyilae, mara cherivey
Neengalellaam kaanalin neeroa?
Verum kaatchi pizhaithaanoa?

Vaanaghamey, ile veyilae, mara cherivey
Neengalellaam kaanalin neeroa?
Verum kaatchi pizhaithaanoa?
Paarpathellaam kanavinai poal
Pudhainthazhinthey poanathanaal
Naanum oar kanavoa?
Indhe njaalamum poythaanoa?

Kaalamendrey oru ninaivum
Kaatchiyendrey pala ninaivum
Koalamum poykaloa?
Angu gunangalum poykaloa?

Kaanbethellaam marayum endraal
Marainthethellaam kaanbam endroa
Naanum oar kanavoa?
Indhe njaalamum poythaanoa?

Welcome back, Phoenix :)

Amazing lyrics, Bharathiar dazzles as usual. Sadly, he is one of the forgotten greats today.

Lemme check this out and tell you.

Technology sucks, huh?

Hey, tell me something... by any chance you didn't try my old blogger blog, did you? Nah, you probably didn't.

I'm wondering if the antispam thingy on my blog somehow mistook your comments for spam. I won't be able to check this out, I just deleted all my spam... :(

Try again today, lemme see if that's what's happening.

Technology sucks :(

ah well it was for the post that you made about Bach's quote and moving average stuff...and the one before.

hope the latest is the wordpress one?

Yeah, the latest is the wordpress one... I don't know what the trouble is, because I have no comments in my spam queue, and no comments in my other queue either! What's more, comments are enabled for the damn post as well.

I just did a test by posting a comment as Joe Blow reader, and it worked.

I have no idea what the problem is :(

Last ditch, just email me your comments and I'll make sure they appear on the blog.

BTW, I didn't know that the quote was by Bach!

Dude, wondering if you just discovered a bug in WP :)

Could you tell me exactly what you did?

At 9:25 PM, Blogger Phoenix said...

ah well..don't worry about posting my comments..
i just did write a comment and gave an invalid email id inn there may be that isv the problem?

At 12:05 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yup, that could definitely be a problem :) I set the thing up so that anybody commenting had to give a name and a valid mail id!

Looks like a feature more than a bug ;)

Yup! The comment with the invalid mail id reached the spam queue - I despammed it, it is up where it belongs now :)

Don't know what happened to the others, though.

Hello Phoenix,

Stumbled on your blog when I was running a google search for the lyrics of the very same song. Have u listened to ninnai charanadaindhen? bombay jayashrees voice takes me to new heights of pleasure!

I am not good at literary Tamizh, so cannot interpret Barathiyars poetry, unfortunately.

Hi there,
>I am not good at literary Tamizh, so >cannot interpret Barathiyars poetry, >unfortunately

Me neither. But I could relate Kalam to time and Katchi to scene (space).
But something tells me it has more physics in it...May be so because I have been reading a lots a book on parallelism between eastern and western thoughts. Neverthless..

Thanks for dropping by.

'tao of physics' ??

Yep !

Me too... ;-) ! I don't blog frequently as I used to !

Good analogy! But I am not sure if Bharathi would have thought abt physics. He wanted to be holistic in all his poems. One example is "Achchamillai". He gives unimaginable meanings to fearlessness. "Nachchai vaayilae konarndhu nanbar ootu pothinum...achchamillai.."

Well i got off the internet..so it is possible it has errors :)

> Good analogy! But I am not sure if >Bharathi would have thought abt >physics.

Well it is possible I am just seeing parallels.. but i cannot rule away the possibility it could mean something too...

This blog makes me wonder, that everytime in the past when i listened to this song, i was more interested in the tune and voice of the singer than the actual lyrics. - A mediocre music listener.
