Swimming pool

*Ludivine Sagnier fans, sorry to disappoint you it is not about her or the movie ;)*

Imagine you standing in a swimming pool, you start disturbing the water creating small waves, the waves you create hit the boundaries and travel back and hit you back. Inference: you are affected by the disturbance you create. Now imagine a lot of other organisms in the pool. The disturbance you create affects the oragnisms in the pool. The organisms inturn(or even otherwise) might create some disturbance that affects you. You not creating disturbance is also a disturbance in a way(something analogous to disturbance =0 and that also affects you in a way if you think about it)

Now take the swimming pool example and imagine your body as the boundary of the 'pool' and all the disturbances that is created internally affects the way you are. And you inturn affect the proceedings in the 'pool'. A lot of organisms inside you affect the way you are and you inturn affect the behaviour of the organisms inside you...

Now extending the boundary of the pool, the universe is one giant swimming pool and YOU are a tiny organism in it. You affect the pool by your existence and internally get affected by disturbances in the giant pool...

I felt this post conveys the wisdom of the ages like

-> I think therefore I am
-> Theory of Existentialism

tis philosophy is the antithesis of western thinking, which studies anything in isolation, eastern\oriental thinking studies anything in its holistic form, the best example of this is given in the taitreiya upinishad.

My 2 cent is universe is too big to "study" in a holistic way..Even human body is too big to study in a holistic sense that is why we have eye specialist, heart specialist etc...
But I was trying to step aside from science for a moment and look at things in a non science perspective...

To me philosophy is a thought process so it can be free of science...It is thoughts shaped up with experiences...so it depends on what one's experience is and if he wants to look at things through his experience "lens" (be it science or whatever)..It is also possible to realize that you are looking through a lens and remove them for a while and look at things..

Did I answer you or confuse you?

"we are worms!! worthless worms!!"
That's a line from one of my fave movies in life: "Hercules"
So that's kinda how I feel when I think of things like these, excepet for the worthless part, I feel like a tiny little worm... insignificant to so many but essential to some others.
When I think we'r just a bunch of hadrons in some sort of sinergy I think we take this likfe way too seriously...
IDK... I'm going crazy with the meanings of things.. I think I have received too many stimula in the last few days and am still trying todeal with it... head's a mess.... too many ideas out of order in it... *sigh*

oh! and... steping out for the westerns, there's a holistic school in psychology named Gestalt, one of my fave actually. It started in Germany, IDK if that would do :P

Question: why does everything have to be scientific? even philosophy for crying out loud! One of the classes that made me go nuts at school, trying to prove psychology is a science, and what do I care? why does everything have to be science???
*lowers her head and goes for a walk*

If you look at it in one perspective everything is knowledge...in ancient Indian literature (upanishads) they dont differentiate between science, philosophy or religion or whatever. Everything is summed up as 'Gyana' knowledege....It is the man/woman who looks at things in a scientific perspective or psychologist perspective....So if one were to say science is everywhere another may say psychology is everywhere...I guess it depends on how you look at things....

A thinker who uses simple words to explain complex things - you know what you have done. You just told all the insignificant creatures in this world that every one makes a difference. Each of us has some effect in shaping this world.

I read Descartes and Meno for one semester and grew less fond of philosophy after that :P

I think therefore I am .. hmm.. its an infinite loop.
If I am thinking, I must be existing but my existence is real only because am thinking.

I'd suggest Camus, Sartre they are amazing.

>I think therefore I am .. hmm.. its >an infinite loop.

Personally, I think the statement by Descartes is BS. "I think therefore I am" tries to equate thought to consciousness... I think that these two are different...For instance say for example a person in coma or in deep sleep..he doesn't think. Does he cease to exist.

The closest definition makes sense is "I am"...so existensitial full of life.
